    All week Tuesday, September 23rd through Saturday, September 27th, visit the John Ed Keeter Public Library of Saginaw to celebrate the freedom to read - part of the American Library Association's Banned Books week. A display of banned and challenged books will be ready for you to read!

    The Crafting with Yarn and Thread Club is open to anyone who wants to craft or learn how to craft with yarn. Ages 10 and up are welcome. You will need to bring your own supplies to the club. Learn to knit, crochet and more!

  6. Banned Books Month Family Movie Day (with Limited Time for Free Popcorn) Rated PG

    September 24, 4:00 PM - 6:00 PM @ Saginaw Public Library

    Celebrate Banned Books Month at the Library with a family movie based on a banned or challenged book. Free popcorn will be available the first 30 minutes of show time. The week of September 23rd-27th, the library will be featuring books that have all been targeted for removal or restrictions in libraries and schools in the last 100+ years. Thousands of individuals and institutions across the United States participate in Banned Books Week each year, and it has grown into a premier literary event and a national awareness and advocacy campaign around censorship.

    Join the Teen Writers Class to learn more about the writing process, discuss ideas, and give each other feedback on drafts. Workshop led by local author, Del Cain.

  8. Visit the Saginaw Library's Table at the High Country Back to School Bash

    September 25, 6:30 PM - 8:00 PM @ High Country Elementary School

    On September 25, 2014 High Country Elementary will be hosting a Back to School Bash at High Country with the whole community to celebrate education and rally the community around going back to school. The John Ed Keeter Public Library will have a table set up at the event in support of the love of reading for children. A limited quantity of books and balloon animals will be distributed at the Library's table along with information about the library's upcoming fall events. Back The Future is High Country Elementary School PTA's new campaign centered on building education and taking a comprehensive approach to community success. Successful students are everyone's business, and successful schools build successful communities. It will take everyone to Back The Future.

  9. Beginner Spanish Classes for Saginaw Library Patrons

    September 26, 9:00 AM - 10:30 AM @ 355 West McLeroy Blvd.

    By popular demand, the library will be offering free beginner Spanish classes to Saginaw library patrons. The weekly classes begin Friday, August 29th from 9AM to 10AM. Classes will be provided by a volunteer with a Bachelor’s degree in Education. These classes are a part of the Adult Basic Education and English as a Second Language Program coordinated by Carmen Silver. Want to learn a new language 24/7 from home? The library also offers the Mango Languages online language-learning system to its patrons. Mango is free for all library patrons and can be accessed anywhere with an Internet connection. To learn more about Mango, stop by the library and ask a librarian for an introduction. “Mango Study Groups” will also be meeting at the John Ed Keeter Public Library on Wednesdays from 11AM to 1PM.
